President’s Message January/February 2024

Hello TCTC! Hope everyone has had a great 2023.  As we enter 2024 there are a few updates I’d like to share.

Early December gave us the Mistletoe races and the TCTC Holiday Party.  In addition to the many TCTC members running the Mistletoe races the TCTC also provided pacing support for 11 groups in the half marathon, and all pacers successfully brought their groups in on target.  As a first-time pacer I can attest that it is an enjoyable & rewarding experience!

The TCTC Holiday Party that evening was a blast, and the new venue was great. I want to give a huge shout-out to Colleen Sands who, in addition to organizing the pacing groups for Mistletoe (and leading one herself) also organized the Holiday Party. Thanks much Colleen!

At the Holiday party we recognized not one , but two volunteers of the year. This year  the honor was awarded to Markus Frischholz and Robert Hill. Markus is a regular at TCTC races, volunteering at many and if you have ever watched video of yourself finishing a TCTC race you probably have Markus to thank for it as he is the one uploading the videos! Additionally, we recognized the unofficial club photographer, Robert Hill. Robert also is a frequent presence at TCTC events and has photographed many of them. Robert has been a long-time member of the TCTC and president of the club at one point. We can’t thank Markus & Robert, or any of our volunteers, enough for the time they give the club and the running community, it wouldn’t be the same without your efforts!

As we enter 2024(!) we have many exciting events on the horizon.

First off is the Frosty 50 race series, which adds the new distance of 12.5K to the roster of events this year. Follow that up with the Winter Seminar with speaker Kiera D’Amato, American half-marathon record holder (1:06:37), past American marathon record holder, and 2022 World Athletic Championship competitor. We will also be able to root for Kiera at the next TCTC event, the Olympic Marathon Trials Watch Party. Stay tuned for details on tie & venue.

As they say in the infomercials, “But wait, there’s more”. Late February offers the change to join the TCTC in a destination race, the Swamp Rabbit Half Marathon and 5K in beautiful Greenville, SC. The race is February 24th and there are additional details on the TCTC website if you are interested.

One last request (for now anyway). We are always looking for interesting stories to include in the TCTC Flyer so after your spouse and friends have gotten tired of hearing about that brutal hill at mile 23 of your last marathon or the horrible headwind in that 5K you may want to consider putting it into print and sharing it with the many folks in the TCTC that are interested in unique racing stories.

Hope everyone enjoys the holidays and stays safe, happy running!

Warm regards,

John Anderson
