My oh my, what a way to end the 2023 year in TCTC. As the temps continue to drop, clothes continue to get longer and start to layer up to keep us warm. That doesn’t stop TCTC and other community members from pushing through the cold weather.
The end of the season is coming to a close with the 40th annual YMCA Mistletoe run, which you can read about here. We celebrated another year at the annual TCTC Holiday Party, where we honored our awesome volunteers, especially these two gents. And we gathered one last time for the annual Hats and Bells Elf Run on Christmas Eve.
We can’t wait to kick off 2024 with the following events so don’t miss out!
January 1: Run in the new year at the Fleet Feet New Year’s Day Fun Run. Kick the New Year off with a run from Fleet Feet Winston-Salem and then enjoy a mimosa to celebrate 2024!
January 5 and 6: Salem Lake Frosty 50 Trail Races. Join us at Salem Lake for the 25th anniversary of the Frosty 50. Choose one of FIVE races fit for any distance! Celebrate your run with post race food, homemade soup, and beer from Radar Brewing. And new this year: The 50K race has been named the 2024 North Carolina Ultra Championship for the Road Runners Club of America. Want to join in? Hurry! Registration ends January 1.
January 13: Quarterly Hanes Park Cleanup, 1-3 p.m. TCTC and others use the park for training, events, races and more. Let’s do our part to help keep it thriving and clean. In past cleanups, we’ve found not only trash but many interesting items, including half a bike, a box spring, a shovel and more … what will we find this time?!
January 27: Camel Elite City Races. What started as a showcase of how fast the track is at JDL Fast Track has quickly become a premier opportunity for college athletes to qualify for NCAAs and achieve personal bests, while being pulled along by some of the fastest pro athletes in the sport.
February 3: Olympic Marathon Trials Watch Party. The journey to the 2024 Paris Olympics runs through Orlando, Florida! Come watch our own Donnie Cowart and the rest of the fastest marathon runners in the USA compete for a position on the Olympic team. Time: 10 a.m. (doors open at 9:45). Place: Fiddlin’ Fish Brewing Company.
February 17-18: Winter Seminar. Enjoy a fun-filled Winter Seminar weekend featuring American long distance runner and 2024 Olympic hopeful Keira D’Amato. The TCTC Winter Seminar weekend will start Saturday with afternoon and evening events, followed by a Sunday morning community fun run with Keira (proceeds from the fun run will benefit H.O.P.E. of Winston-Salem – a local nonprofit that works at the intersection of children’s health and food insecurity).
February XX: Red Dress Run. February is American Heart month and the kick off for the Go Red for Women campaign. Interested in hosting this year? Contact [email protected].
February 24: Swamp Rabbit Half Marathon/5K. Join fellow TCTC members for a destination race at the Greenville Half Marathon and 5K, also known as the Swamp Rabbit Race and the “fastest half marathon in the South.”
