Hello TCTC! I hope everyone is having a great 2024.The first two months have certainly flown by!
A big thanks to those of you who participated in the Winter Seminar events with Kiera D’Amato. I’m sure those of you who got to meet, talk, and run with her saw what a genuinely nice and inspiring person she is. Her story of coming back as a mother of two young children and a business owner to set multiple American distance records is amazing. And a great big thanks to Jessica Cowart, Colleen Sands, Alicia Rider, Terry Wilmont, and Donnie Cowart for organizing and managing the events! Their efforts were the reason the events went so well.
There was also a great turnout for the Olympic Marathon Trials watch party at Fiddlin’ Fish, where members of the club came out to cheer for local favorites Donnie Cowart and Kiera. Donnie was competing in his third Olympic Trials (twice previously in the steeplechase) and had a large contingent of fans out to watch at FF. Kudos to Er Ralston for organizing the event!
We are approaching the weekend of the Swamp Rabbit Half Marathon in Greenville, SC. Approximately 30 TCTCers have registered for the half marathon and 5K. Way to represent! I expect there will be plenty of war stories for the next edition of the Flyer! Terry Wilmont has done an awesome job of organizing this group activity!
And for those of you who are not going to Greenville, we have a full race/activity schedule coming up this Spring. St. Leos, Deacon Dash, Outrun Violence 5K, St. Patty’s Hash Run, and of course the return of the $5/5K. If you are looking for a challenge to jump start your Spring training, look no further.
Speaking of challenges, one that our race organizers consistently face is the need for volunteers at their events. For those of you that volunteer regularly, a big thank you! For those of you that are inexperienced with volunteering at a race, I’d suggest giving it a shot at least once. You may be surprised at how enjoyable, rewarding, and inspiring it can be.
And mark your calendars for the TCTC Annual Picnic and Club Meeting on May 5th at the shelter in Lienbach Park off Robinhood Rd. This event is where next year’s board will be elected, so come out to eat, drink, and cast your vote!
Hope everyone enjoys the warmer weather and stays safe, happy running!
