New Member Spotlight: Marisa Browning

My name is: Marisa Browning

To sum myself up in a nutshell: Born and raised in Delaware, graduated from Delaware State University with my degree in Ag Education. I was part of the XC/TF team all 4 years and was invited to do triathlon the inaugural year during my senior year. I moved to WS to be with my boyfriend after being in a long-distance relationship for 2 years. Also currently working on transitioning from the highly competitive and academic life to the more “relaxed” and recreational working life.

I’m originally from: Magnolia, Delaware, right by Dover

I’ve been in Winston-Salem: 4 months

Became a TCTC member because: I wanted to be a part of a group that enjoys the sport as much as I do. Running as a group is always more enjoyable than running by yourself.

Been a “runner” since: 2014/2015 when I switched from being a sprinter in 8th grade spring track and 9th grade indoor track to distance on the outdoor track team in 9th grade and joined XC in 10th, I’ve stuck with the distance side of running since.

My motivation to run is: Honestly you name it, and it’s why I run. Stress relief, staying healthy, having a reason to eat a lot of food, gaining confidence in the way my body looks and feels, making new friends, pushing myself to new limits. I even enjoy the little things about running. The crunch of the leaves beneath my feet, the cool weather of fall that causes your skin to prickle but not enough to make you cold, the scenery of a new route, developing the drive and wanting to improve in different ways. The runner’s high when you complete a new distance, new PR, hard workout, or generally doing better than you thought you would in a race or workout. The longer I’m part of the sport, the more appreciation I develop for it.

But when I’m not running, I enjoy: Swimming and biking in prep for triathlons, taking our dog, Bastion, for walks, and generally looking for things to do in and around town while also meeting and developing new friendships.
