In the summer, evening brings a reprieve from the heat of the day and the delightful sounds and delicious smells of summer in the South. And in Winston-Salem for four Wednesdays in late May and early June, evening brings time on the track with friends.

It’s almost time for TCTC’s Summer Track Series, a series of four meets at the Bob Sosnik Track at Hanes Park, near the R.J. Reynolds High School gym.

The meets take place on Wednesday evenings starting at 6 p.m. The 2022 dates are May 25, June 1, June 8 and June 15.

There is no entry fee, and runners may enter as many events as they like. This is a great tune-up for the TCTC Ultimate Runner event, which is held on the fourth Saturday in June.

Whether or not you decide to enter the Ultimate Runner, these events give runners of all abilities and ages a chance to race and socialize with the other runners and spectators. And those who don’t run can help make the event fun for everyone by assisting with finish line timing and race officiating. A digital clock will be set up, but there will be no official timekeeping or records kept.

There will be multiple heats per event as needed, based on runners of similar ability. The 100 meters will be run in lanes, and the 2-mile cross country race will be one heat.

TIME   –   EVENT

So come out, lace up your running shoes or spikes, and start your summer off with a bit of running.
