Activities March/April 2024

Punxsutawney Phil said we would have an early spring, and we’re holding him to it! But in the meantime, you can stay warm, literally and figuratively, with some great activities with the Twin City Track Club.

2024 started out very busy with a chilly, soggy running of the Frosty 50. We did our part to keep Hanes Park beautiful with our quarterly cleanup (thank you to the hearty souls who came out!). We enjoyed some impressive racing at the Camel City Elite Races. Then we cheered on Donnie Cowart and Keira D’Amato in the Olympic marathon trials, caught up with Keira for laughs and running at the Winter Seminar and donned our red finery for the Red Dress Run. We finished out February in Greenville, South Carolina for the Swamp Rabbit Run.

Not a bad way to start the year!

Now the spring racing season begins, and TCTC is providing timing services for six races in March and April. That is the Deacon Dash (March 9), Run Leo (March 16), Winston-Salem State Run and Wellness (March 23), Outrun Violence (April 6), and the Street School Races and Mad Dash in Dobson, both on April 27. Please support these races by signing up to run or volunteer. More information here.

And what are we up to in the Club?

On March 6, we’ll have our final JDL Track Night of the season. As part of Twin City Track Club’s sponsorship of the Camel City races, members have access to track time at JDL Fast Track on select Wednesday evenings from 6-8 p.m. Doors open at 5:55.

Enjoy a run, fellowship and green beer at the St. Patrick’s Day Hash Run, hosted by Dan Bradley at 4 p.m. on March 16. Be sure to sign up to help with planning.

Get out your waders and old clothes and join the crew at Hanes Park for our quarterly clean up on April 6, 1-3 p.m. This is a great opportunity for us as a club to care for a park that so many of us enjoy throughout the year. Please sign up so we know who is planning to attend.

We’re sending our Boston Marathon runners off with all our best wish on April 10. More information to come, including how we can follow them and cheer them on.

We’re not in charge, but you get a nice Club discount for the Craft Half on April 20, so if you had plans to run anyway … More information about TCTC discounts for races here.

Start flipping through your cookout recipes to make a delicious dish to share at our annual TCTC Picnic. We’ll vote on new board members, get an update on club goings on, and spend time together. Mark your calendar for Sunday, May 5, and stay tuned for details
