Winter Races, Runs and Workouts

With the 40th running of the Mistletoe on December 2 (see results here), the winter running season is now under way. And there are plenty of races, runs and workouts to help you stay in shape, up your game and nurture friendships that will warm your heart. Here are a few activities that you may want to put on your calendar.

JDL Track Nights: As part of Twin City Track Club’s sponsorship of the Camel City races, members have access to track time at JDL Fast Track on select Wednesday evenings from 6-8 p.m. throughout the winter. Doors open at 5:55

Remaining 2023-24 dates:

  • December 6 and 13
  • January 3, 10, 17 and 31
  • February 7, 14, 21 and 28
  • March 6

December 14: Winston Lights Fun Run: Join Fleet Feet and members of the Twin City Track Club at 6 p.m. for a gorgeous run through the holiday lights in the Buena Vista neighborhood. Cue cards will be available for a 3 mile and 5 mile course.  After the run, stick around for some delicious hot chocolate topped with Baileys or Peppermint Schnapps! Current TCTC members will have a chance to shop anytime between 5-7:30 p.m. and will receive a 10% discount off any full-priced items!

December 24: Hats and Bells Elf Run: This festive run is for all running speeds and abilities. Average pace will be 10-11 minute miles and will be a no drop run. Total distance will be between 4 and 4.5 miles. Please join us and bring your running friends and family!  Wear your hats, bells, and most festive attire. Gather in the William White YMCA parking lot at 9 a.m. for a group photo and a fun social run!

January 1: Run in the new year at the Fleet Feet New Year’s Day Fun Run. Kick the New Year off with a run from Fleet Feet Winston-Salem and then enjoy a mimosa to celebrate 2024!

January 5-6: 25th Frosty Fifty Races: Trail races around Salem Lake ranging from 5K to 50K. This is the final event in the Fit 4 Race Series, and you have a chance to support our two charity partners: Down syndrome Association of Greater Winston-Salem and the Winston-Salem Street School. And new this year: The 50K race has been named the 2024 North Carolina Ultra Championship for the Road Runners Club of America. Can’t run but want to be part of this great event? February 17-18: TCTC Winter Seminar: Enjoy a fun-filled Winter Seminar weekend featuring American long distance runner and 2024 Olympic hopeful Keira D’Amato. The TCTC Winter Seminar weekend will start Saturday with afternoon and evening events, followed by a Sunday morning community fun run with Keira (proceeds from the fun run will benefit H.O.P.E. of Winston-Salem – a local nonprofit that works at the intersection of children’s health and food insecurity). 

February 24: TCTC Destination Race: Swamp Rabbit Half Marathon and 5K. Join fellow TCTC members for a destination race at the Greenville Half Marathon and 5K, also known as the Swamp Rabbit Race and the “fastest half marathon in the South.
