President’s Message May/June 2024

Hello TCTC! Hopefully 2024 is going well for everyone. We finally seem to be closing in on consistently nicer running weather, other than the pollen-infused air.

An update on some recent club events; the ever-popular $5 5K on the Muddy Creek Greenway has resumed for the season with another sold-out event in April. That was followed up by the Boston Marathon send-off party for the club members who participated in that storied event. This year the TCTC had 19 participants. The St. Leos races were as popular as ever and there was also strong TCTC participation in the CraftHalf half-marathon on April 20th which, despite the challenging course, has become a very popular event with about 1400 participants this year. It is worth pointing out that even for members who aren’t interested in running in competitive events, these races provide a great opportunity to socialize with like-minded folks looking to get out and get some fresh air and exercise. So even if you’ve thought of yourself as a “racer” you might find that you enjoy the camaraderie of these events.

As a calendar update don’t forget the Annual Picnic and Club Meeting is May 5th at Leinbach Park. This is a great family-friendly event where we will enjoy burgers, hot dogs, and the usual picnic-sides as well as elect the next TCTC Board.

Also, coming in June we’ll have a TCTC evening at a W-S Dash game, the Summer Track series, and the world famous Ultimate Runner on June 29th.

I’d be remiss if I didn’t call out that our event organizers are always looking for volunteers to assist at their events. Thank you to the folks who show up regularly and for those inexperienced with volunteering at these events, it is worth trying. You’ll be amazed at how rewarding it is.

I hope to see you at the Annual Picnic, or out on the roads.

Stay safe and happy running!

John
