What’s Inside a Runner’s Head?

Have you ever had the thought of  “what goes through a runner’s head?” It seems like those on the faster end would have all the positive thoughts in the world.  I mean…they’re fast…so things must go well for them all the time right?  Not so.  All runners have their good and bad days, great races and others that…will not be spoken of.  All runners have different thoughts milling around in the ‘ol noggin.  Here is The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly thoughts of runners from your fellow TCTC members.

The Good:

I think of the airport fight scene from Captain America: Civil War, where Ant-Man is sprinting in his shrunken form chanting, “I’m the boss, I’m the boss, I’m the boss.” Paul Rudd’s voice plays on a loop in my head until I conquer that hill.

I can do hard things

I hit a state of flow—a kind of pure euphoria—where all I feel is happiness. It’s a deep, inner connection to myself and the world around me,

One more mile, one more step, you got this

The feeling of euphoria after hitting a goal like no other

I love running in the crisp and cool mornings

The Bad:

“I want pastries. Should I stop for a cheese Danish? Why are there no good bakeries around here?”

This is difficult, feeling a bit sluggish and heavy but that’s okay, it’s going to be fine.

I’m so hungry, I wish I packed more sweets/savory things

What on Earth did I get myself into committing to this distance?

Is this the right training plan for me?

Am I crazy? I may actually be a bit crazy

The Ugly

Insert string of curses here

Everything hurts and I’m dying

Why are my legs and lungs acting like such drama queens? Come on body, work!

That was the worst race ever, I’m never doing this again (then immediately signs up for another)

I can’t do this, this is miserable

Illness and injuries… enough said.
