Find Your Favorite Surface
Trails provide a refreshing escape from busy streets. Running on dirt and single-track trails builds strength, balance, and agility while reducing the pounding that comes with harder surfaces. Local favorites like Hobby Park, Salem Lake, Tanglewood Park, Reynolda Trails, Hanging Rock and Pilot Mountain offer everything from smooth, rolling trails to challenging climbs. Trail running encourages you to slow down, appreciate nature, and enjoy the journey as much as the finish.
The Track remains one of the best places to improve fitness. Whether you’re working on speed, preparing for a goal race, or simply enjoying structured workouts with friends, interval sessions on the track help runners of every ability become stronger and more efficient. The Twin City Track Club’s summer track workouts are a welcoming place for newcomers and experienced runners alike, proving that speed work is more fun when shared. The Bob Sosnik Track at Hanes Park offers group practices on Tuesday evenings and Happy Hill Track is another eight-lane public track.
Road Running continues to be the backbone of our sport. Winston-Salem’s greenways, neighborhoods, and parks offer countless miles for training, while local races provide motivation throughout the year. From a first 5K to a marathon qualifier, every runner can find an event that fits their goals.
A Race for Every Runner
One of the greatest strengths of the Twin City Track Club is its diverse race calendar, offering events across every surface and distance throughout the year. Whether you’re looking for competition, camaraderie, or simply an excuse to spend a Saturday morning with fellow runners, there’s a race waiting for you.
The season begins with the legendary Frosty Fifty Trail Races, where participants can tackle distances ranging from 5K to 50K on scenic winter trails.
For runners who enjoy testing every aspect of their fitness, the Ultimate Runner combines multiple challenges into one unique event that rewards versatility as much as speed.
Summer heats up with the popular Cook Medical Beat the Heat 5K, one of North Carolina’s premier evening road races and the 2026 Road Runners Club of America National Championship 5K. It’s fast, festive, and attracts runners from across the region.
Looking for an affordable way to race regularly? The club’s $5K Race Series offers monthly chip-timed races from spring through early fall. These low-key events are perfect for first-time racers, seasoned competitors, or anyone wanting to measure their progress without a major commitment.
When August arrives, runners head for the woods at Hobby Trails To You!, celebrating ten years of introducing runners to the challenging and beautiful trails of Hobby Park. It’s an ideal race for those curious about trail running or experienced trail enthusiasts looking for a fun local challenge.
As marathon season approaches, the Salem Lake Trail Runs offer 5K, 7-mile, and 30K options on one of the area’s most scenic trails. The shaded course has become a favorite tune-up for fall races while showcasing one of Winston-Salem’s greatest outdoor treasures.
The year wraps up with the fun and competitive Black Friday Relays Leftover Race, giving runners a chance to burn off Thanksgiving dinner while enjoying a team atmosphere with friends.
