As temperatures soar, Winston-Salem gears up for Beat the Heat, taking place July 16 at the Winston-Salem Fairgrounds.

New this year, the races include a Youth One Mile Race, a timed competitive race for participants 17 years of age or younger. The entry fee is $15 for the one-mile race, to be run on an accurately measured one-mile out and back course. Age group awards will be presented for the top three male and female competitors in the following age divisions: 11 and under, 12-13, 14-15 and 16-17.

Beat the Heat’s theme is “Healthy Fun for Everyone,” and each year the Twin City Track Club selects two charity partners that support health and fitness in the community. Through the generosity of race participants, last year’s event raised over $6,000 for our partners. This year’s partners are Ainsley’s Angels of the Triad and LEAD Girls of North Carolina.

And once again we’ll be hosting the NC-USATF 5K Championship for NC elite runners, which is always an exciting race to compete in and cheer for.

You still have time to register for virtual and in-person 1-mile and 5K runs and walks, so lace up, grab your water bottle and head to the fairgrounds for one of North Carolina’s most popular family race events.
