As I write this, TCTC has just finished hosting another Beat the Heat 5K. There was a great turnout of runners and elite racers but, just as important, there was a great turnout of volunteers. It was fun to see so many long-time and new TCTC members handing out water on the course and at the finish line, providing food and drinks to participants, and doing many other jobs. My good friend, Bethany Fields (who I met through TCTC), even brought her four-year-old daughter to hand out water.
If you have never volunteered for a race, I urge you to volunteer for at least one event this year. The reasons are many:
-WE NEED VOLUNTEERS! Running events cannot happen without the support of those who give their time.
– You are giving back to the running community.
– By volunteering, you see what is required to make a race successful and, as a result, you will appreciate the efforts more the next time you participate in an event.
– You get to know other club members better. Maybe you will meet a new running partner!
– It makes you feel good!
TCTC also has other volunteer opportunities such as helping with social events and a quarterly Hanes Park Cleanup. Emails are sent regularly with a link to volunteer, but if you are still wondering how to get involved, please reach out to me: president@twinciytc. org.
