New Member Spotlight: Alissa Karr

My name is: Alissa Karr

To sum myself up in a nutshell: I can almost always be convinced to sign up for a race, especially a relay race like Ragnar’s Bourbon Chase or Ville to Ville Extreme. However, I have yet to be convinced to actually make a Track Night workout. This is much to Keith Miller’s chagrin!

And I’m originally from: Indiana, but I most recently lived in Lexington, Kentucky, for 6.5 years before moving to Winston-Salem.

I’ve been in Winston-Salem: Since the end of February 2021

Became a TCTC member because: Of some great TCTC members—Colleen Sands, Hannah Boles, Frances and Keith Miller. I met these great folks at Fiddlin’ Fish Run Club, so I wanted to be an official member of the club.

Been a “runner” since:  Middle school track, but I really didn’t get into running again until after undergrad. I ran my first half marathon in 2005, and I’ve been running them ever since. I have run a handful of marathons, and I’ve completed a handful of triathlons (sprint and Olympic distance). I have my first Half Ironman Triathlon coming up in May 2022 (deferred because of COVID since 2020).

My motivation to run is: To be connected to the outdoors, remain active and find a mental escape. I also like planning run-cations, so I hope to do these again soon!

But when I’m not running, I enjoy: Spending time with my husband Brad, family, and friends, usually over food and drinks. We also enjoy getting out and seeing what North Carolina has to offer: mountains, lakes, beaches, etc.
