Hi, I’m Damani Mitchell and I have the wonderful privilege of serving as President of the Twin City Track Club for 2026 to 2027. I’m originally from Kingston, Jamaica, and moved from West Virginia to Winston Salem back in 2018. For me, running is a liberating, feel-good activity, and I’m so glad to have found a community of supportive and friendly people.

Do you feel that? There’s something in the air! So many people have been expressing interest in health, running and connection. Seems like this year has brought out the runner in us all and I’m excited for the rest of the year, and how we can cultivate the intersection of all three.

But it’s not just 2026. Twin City Track Club will be celebrating 50 years next year, making us the oldest running club in North Carolina! This is a great opportunity to reflect, and recommit to the next fifty years. I have been impressed by the dedication the community has shown, and the benefits we all share. From the timing team and race directors, there are so many parts that come together to touch so many facets of what makes Winston’s running culture so strong.

TCTC’s continuing  support of the running community takes dedication from members, and I want to give a shout-out to our hard working board members, and highlight new board members:

  • Owen Watkins (Membership)

  • Emily Taylor (Activities)

  • Molly Fuller (Activities)

  • Heather Hugosson (Flyer Editor)

  • Cynthia Daggett (Member at large)

TCTC  really is a unique community filled with teachers, doctors, volunteers, students and everyone in-between–people from all ages and stages. With almost 750 members, I’m happy to be a part of such a vibrant community that has continued to develop into the full-service club that it is today.

We have a great and growing catalogue of runs and activities. Join us for the Night at the dash game, included for members, on June 18th. Check out our variety of group runs on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, and hangout after for a post-run pick me up at Dough-Joe’s, or wherever we’re running.  Have fun at the Ultimate Runner Track Series, and Ultimate Runner, or swing by our monthly $5 5ks. And bring a friend! Our mission is to “Inspire and support all runners in our community”. I add my own tidbit to find whatever motivates you and ‘run your own race’. But why run it alone? If you or a friend are looking for a running community to call home, come check us out and see what else our membership has to offer.

I’m energized by the community and the excitement from TCTC members to make our 50th year the best yet. We really want to be your running home, and support the greater Winston community, and your running journey. Thank you all for the warm welcome and support, and see you out running!
