It’s been a few years since I held the position of TCTC Flyer Editor. It was a printed and mailed version then. Things sure change over a decade. Not only did technology alter how the Flyer is produced and distributed, but aging from the 50’s to the 60’s sure changed my ability to touch my toes without at least 100 degree bend of the knees!
I began running in my 40’s and joined TCTC. In my 50’s, I gained inspiration and trained harder. Now that I’ve entered my sixth decade, I just want to be able to run as long as my body allows it. (Whoever came up with age groups and grades in races deserves a medal!) With inspiration and prompting of Track Club members, I attempted different terrains and distances from 5k’s to marathons; I even qualified and completed the Boston Marathon in 2017.
I retired from teaching WSFCS fourth graders in 2024. Now I occupy my time substitute teaching, helping my son and daughter renovate/prepare homes to rent or flip and go on fantastic hiking adventures with my phenomenal trip-planner husband. My favorite new title is “Farmor,” which is Swedish for “father’s mother.” I have an almost three-year-old grandson and excitedly await the August arrival of his brother.
Get involved, then write about it!
If you haven’t experienced the variety of races offered by TCTC, I’d encourage you to. Trails are my thing and there are multiple distance options at Salem Lake. But I love a rooty, rocky, forested one and Hobby Trails to You! is fills that need. For track options, Ultimate Runner is full this year (I’m a one-and-done for that beast) but you can practice the event Wednesday evenings this month. For road runners, there’s always Beat the Heat 5k. Get involved, take pictures, write about your running experience and send it to your 2026 Flyer Editor!
