On July 18, 2026, the Cook Medical Beat the Heat 5K will take center stage on the national running calendar as the RRCA National Championship 5K. This designation is a tremendous honor—not just for the race itself, but for the Twin City Track Club and the many members who have helped make Beat the Heat one of the most respected and well-run events in the region.

The Road Runners Club of America does not award National Championship status lightly. This recognition is a tribute to decades of consistent excellence, strong leadership, dedicated volunteers, and a club culture that values community, inclusivity, and top-quality event management. In short, this championship belongs to all of us.

A Club-Powered National Event

Hosting a national championship race brings added visibility, higher expectations, and a unique opportunity to showcase Twin City Track Club on a national stage. Participants at all levels of running will experience firsthand what makes this race special.

To meet that moment, we will seek broad member involvement. From planning and outreach to race-week logistics and race-day execution, Beat the Heat has always been a club-driven event. That tradition is more important than ever in 2026.

Building Awareness and Support

In addition to volunteering, members can play a key role by helping spread the word. Share race information with running friends, local groups, and training partners. Encourage participation, attendance, and community engagement. Sponsor recruitment is also underway, with several new top-level partners already committed for 2026, and additional support will help ensure the event remains strong and sustainable .

Looking Ahead to 2026

Race planning is well underway, with thoughtful updates aimed at improving the participant experience, strengthening charitable impact, and enhancing sustainability. Beat the Heat will continue to evolve while staying true to its roots as a welcoming, community-centered race that reflects the values of Twin City Track Club .
