Board Member Jay

Jay Welch – Flyer Editor

Jay is a Greensboro native who has lived in Winston Salem for the last 9 years. He has been an active member of the Twin City Track club since 2020.

“Coach Jay” as he is known to many in the triad area identifies himself first and foremost as a born-again son of the risen king, Jesus Christ. After that, he is a husband to Briana, a father to Sofia, an ultramarathoner, and a full time running coach.

Jay ran track for Southeast Guilford Middle School but turned away from the sport in pursuit of academics after he transitioned to the Early College at Guilford where he met his wife, Briana Welch. Jay returned to the sport when the world shut down in 2020. Shortly after he happened upon TCTC setting up for the Ultimate Runner race in June of 2020. After asking several questions of the volunteers, Jay was ecstatic to learn that you can compete in running as an adult (a fact he was blissfully unaware of at the time). He immediately signed his family up for membership with TCTC.

Jay’s first ever race as an adult was the TCTC $5 5K in September of 2020. Since then, he has ran almost every race TCTC has to offer, completed a marathon and several ultramarathons, volunteered as a race timer for TCTC, and is now thrilled to be able to give back in his new board position as Flyer Editor for the club.

“This club has been a huge blessing for my family at a time when we really needed it. We’ve made connections here that led to new friendships, coaches that helped us achieve new heights in our running, and even an unexpected path that led us to the business we now own together. I thank God for bringing TCTC into our lives and I want to honor the legacy of the club as best as I can”, said Jay of his experience as a TCTC member.

Jay owns Crazy Running Greensboro with his wife, Briana where they coach youth athletes in the fundamentals of running and Track & Field. He also offers individual and group coaching to adults in distances ranging from the 5K to ultramarathons. Jay is a self-proclaimed “Runvangelist”. His mission is to bring the transformational power of running to the lives of as many people as possible with the ultimate goal of getting families running together.

“I’ve seen how running has transformed my family and brought us closer together and I’m grateful to be able to bring that message to other families in the triad and beyond!”
