Activities May/June 2023

Things are heating up in the Twin City with runs, races and opportunities to serve the community. TCTC members have been busy, cheering on runners (both in person and virtually), cleaning up parks and helping to spread running joy throughout our city.

On March 18, we donned our green garb and joined hosts JK Curry and Dan Bradley for a St. Patrick’s Day Hash Run. Came for the run, stayed for some beer!

We kicked off $5K 2023 on April 11 at Jamison Park (285 Meadowlark Drive). The next race is this week (May 9) and the series runs through October. All races except October will begin at 6:30 p.m. October’s race will start at 6 p.m. due to darkness.

With a couple of dozen TCTC runners headed for the Boston Marathon, we of course took time to have a party. On April 12, we gathered at Joymongers Barrel Hall to toast the Boston-bound. Read about some of their experiences here.

Our quarterly Hanes Park Cleanup on April 1 ran into some foul weather—or at least forecasts of crazy meteorological happenings. So, we shifted the date to April 15 and took on the litter on the ground and in the stream. The pizza party at the end was a nice way to celebrate another great day making our park pretty.

On April 30, we introduced the TCTC Cheer Zone at the Craft Half (another event postponed from April 1 (admit it: you thought the postponement was an April fool’s joke!). Look for more opportunities to cheer on our fellow runners at other events.

We returned to Leinbach Park for the Twin City Track Club Annual Meeting and Picnic on May 7. Time to jump into the new year!

Coming up:

May 24 kicks off the Summer Track Series on the Bob Sosnik Track at Hanes Park. Four Wednesdays will give you a chance to train with your fellow runners and prepare for Ultimate Runner. Or just get in better shape!

It’s time to go see the Dash play! TCTC will be going as a group to see the Winston-Salem Dash take on the Ashville Tourists on Thursday, June 15. Be sure to mark your calendar and sign up here soon.

On June 24, Ultimate Runners (and those who want to be) will meet at Hanes Park to see if they have what it takes to walk away with a T-shirt. They don’t come cheap!
