Activities July/August 2023

After our fourth coolest May and second coolest June on record, summer finally came with record hot temperatures for the Fourth of July weekend. But we’re keeping it cool in the Twin City with activities to bring us together, care for our city and run!

The Summer Track Series kicked off in late May, and dozens of runners came out to challenge themselves and each other and prepare for this year’s Ultimate Runner on June 24. Click here to read a great piece in the Journal about blind runner Eric Strong and his Achilles Foundation guide, Ben Kassel.

On June 15, we met at Truist Stadium to watch the Dash take on the Asheville Tourists. We cheered (a bit!), we ate hot dogs, we played with puppies. It was a good night at the old ball game.

Coming up

Help keep Hanes Park beautiful! On Saturday, July 15, we’re meeting at Hanes Park (by the track) 10 a.m. to noon for our quarterly cleanup day. From Summer Track Series to Ultimate Runner to the Tuesday night track workout, TCTC uses the facilities at Hanes Park for numerous activities, so let’s lend a hand to keep the park nice for all to enjoy. Grab a friend or family member, slather on the sunscreen and wear your oldest clothes—who knows? You’re nearly guaranteed to find something that will make a great story! Sign up here; it really helps us plan!

July 22: Get ready for this year’s Beat the Heat. Olympian and former Winter Seminar speaker Abbey D’Agostino Cooper will join this year. Join us for healthy fun and to support our charity partners—Ainsley’s Angels of the Triad and Community Care Center for Forsyth County.

August 19: The Fit 4 Race Series kicks off with the first of four trail races,  Hobby Trails to You!

On Sunday, August 20, we’ll get together at Incendiary Brewing for a Barkley Marathons–themed Scavenger Hunt throughout the streets of Winston-Salem. You’ll have 60 minutes rather than 60 hours (feel better already?) to find as many books in the city as you can and tear out the page with your team number. But be sure to get back to Incendiary before the playing of “Taps.” Like the race that inspires it, we’re limiting the field to 40 … teams. So sign up today and come out for a challenging and fun race through town.

On the horizon

Keep your eyes peeled for information about autumn (yes, it’s coming!) hash runs, pacing at the Mistletoe, the TCTC annual holiday party and Hats and Bells on Christmas Eve.
