Note: With Twin City Track Club approaching its 50th Anniversary, the club would like to look back on past years. There was an article in a recent Flyer about the start of the TCTC in the 1970s.
I joined Twin City Track Club in 1995, so I have been a member for over half the club’s lifespan. The mid to late 90s bring back memories of the Monday Night Fatburner, a 10 mile run from the WGW YMCA around Wake Forest University and back, and the Wednesday night Hill Loop, running the hills in Buena Vista. Those runs were important to me. I was working in Reidsville at the time and made it a priority to get back to Winston-Salem to participate. I particularly remember running with Betsy Page (now Armentrout) and Teresa Cannon. We motivated each other on those weekly
runs and then would toe the line to race against each other on the weekends. Of course, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention meeting my husband on a Monday night run in 1996.
Other fond memories include:
- TCTC outings to Chateau Morrisette on the Blue Ridge parkway. We would run and
then attend the jazz music concert at the winery. - HASH runs
- Really fun Christmas parties with LOTS of dancing
- Flyer Assembly at the Sos’ (Bob Sosnik) house
- Ultimate Runners, especially the year Don Kardong from Runners’ World participated
- Trips to Helen, GA to run the Hogpen Hill Climb
The friends I made through TCTC in the 1990s are still friends of mine today, and I look forward to celebrating TCTC’s 50 th Anniversary with many of them next year.
